amore? Una folle passione, tratto dall’omonimo romanzo scritto da Ron Rash ed edito in Italia da Salani, racconta
di un amore talmente forte da trasformarsi in follia, di un sentimento che diventa un’ossessione in grado di
raggiungere i meandri più bui dell’animo umano. Ambientato sul finire degli Anni Venti sullo sfondo delle
montagne del North Carolina, la pellicola vede protagonisti George (Cooper) e Serena (Lawrence) Pemberton, due giovani
neosposi, bellissimi e innamoratissimi, che iniziano a lavorare per quello che diventerà presto un impero del
legname. Serena è una giovane donna forte, passionale e senza paura: supervisiona i taglialegna, dà la caccia a
serpenti a sonagli e salva addirittura la vita di un uomo in mezzo alla natura selvaggia. Forti del loro potere,
dell’ascendente e del carisma che esercitano sugli altri, i Pemberton non permettono a nessuno di ostacolare il
loro amore folle e le loro ambizioni. Quando Serena, però, scopre il passato segreto di George e si trova a fare i
conti con il proprio ineluttabile destino, l’unione passionale dei Pemberton comincia a sgretolarsi, facendo
presagire un drammatico epilogo.
